My Bargain Basement

Saturday, December 31st, 2005

Over the years, people have asked me if there was one central location where they could find all of my products, or the products that I recommend. The answer has always been no.

I am now working on a site that will do just this at:
WillieRecommends.com

I’ve just started working on the site, and havne’t even changed from the default WordPress layout/header yet.

In the interim, I thought it would be a good way to start off the new year… by offering discounts on a few of my products, for various reasons. I’ll get those specials posted as soon as practical. So, bookmark the site and check back often. I’ll save you over 60% on some of the things that I’ll list here.

How To Generate Massive Free Website Traffic

How To Generate Massive Free Website Traffic
Copyright © 2005 by Willie Crawford

I’ve been marketing online for almost 10 years, and generate
the majority of website traffic to most of my sites for free.
Today, I’ll share with you how to create and maintain an
endless stream of highly-targeted website visitors for free.

The secret to generating all of the free website traffic that
you can handle is - understanding why your visitors are online
in the first place.

Many of your visitors are NOT online looking for items to
purchase… they are looking for information. Even people who
are planning on making a purchase soon, often research the
item online - but PLAN on buying it locally.

People go online looking for information. They go online
looking for answers to their questions, or solutions to
their problems. They go online looking for an easy way to find
the information that they need. If you provide this
information, and give your visitors a pleasant experience,
then they will often purchase related items from your site.

Understanding what your visitors are looking for should also
convince you that “content is king.” Fill your website with
quality, accurate, current content, and it will attract lots of
visitors.

While articles are the “content” that most often comes
to mind, if you want to totally dominate your niche, you
need to employ content in multiple formats.

Articles are a great place to start. Write, or have written,
500 - 1500 word articles that focus on a very specific topic,
and they will be natural search engine magnets. In addition
to your own unique articles, use content written by others
to round out your site.

There is a science to using articles which many beginning
Internet marketers seem to struggle with. The key to
making articles work for you, is making them so valuable
that other websites and publishers actually search for more
of your material. They read one or two of your articles,
and gain so much value, that they want to offer their readers
and visitors MORE of your content.

At the same time, people who read your quality, helpful
articles will follow links to your sites looking for more of
the same.

Once you have a few articles, you also have all the material
you need to create viral traffic magnets in other formats.
My two favorite formats are PDF special reports and short
Camtasia videos.

You can take the same topic/material that you’ve developed
an expertise on, and written articles on, and turn it into a
“special report.” To turn an article into a PDF special
report, you just expand upon what is covered in the article.
Then you use software to convert the text file to PDF. There
are numerous pieces of software that allows you to do this.

One free tool for converting Microsoft Word ® documents to
PDF is called PDF995. You can find it offered from numerous
websites just by doing a search on it at any search engine.

Microsoft Word treats PDF995 as another printer. So you just
tell MS Word to print your document, and you choose PDF995 as
your printer. In a few seconds, you have a PDF document ready
to distribute.

People place a higher value on PDF documents than they do on
articles. Perhaps it’s because the PDF documents appear to
take more work to create. I just showed you that it really
doesn’t take more work though. Still, PDF documents have a
longer “shelf life” and get passed around a LOT!

When setting up your PDF special reports, include links back
to your sites. Make these live hyperlinks. Then give people
a reason, or an incentive, to pass your PDF document on. If
it contains lots of useful information, or is brandable and
pays an affiliate commission, the PDF will soon “go viral”
(spreading without any additional effort on your part).

A step up from the PDF, is using Camtasia videos as viral
traffic generators. Take the same material that you used to
create the articles and the PDFs, add some pictures and
sound to it, and you have a video.

Camtasia is a piece of screen capture software that records
whatever you have on your computer screen. You’ll find it at:
http://techsmith.com/

Using Camtasia, you can demonstrate using a piece of
software, or show some slides that you’ve created. AS you step
through your presentation on your computer screen you record
the whole thing. At the same time that you’re recording the
video portion, you can add narration, simply using your
microphone plugged right into your computer’s microphone jack.

The really powerful feature of Camtasia is that it allows you
to specify what webpage, or where, the viewer will be taken
at the end of the video. You can take them back to the
beginning of the video to watch it all over again if you’re
teaching something challenging. You can also have it take
them right to an online webpage or order form for a product
that you’re recommending. This is a way of driving traffic
to a target site without requiring any action on the part of
your viewer.

If you’d like to know more about how to use articles or
multi-media content to generate website traffic, I recommend
going through the tutorials at Content Propulsion Lab. You are
taught how to generate and use content in all of the formats
covered above. You’re also taught the secret to making your
multi-media content “search engine friendly.” You’ll find
Content Propulsion Lab at: http://CashThroughContent.com

A final way to generate an incredible amount of website
traffic is to create a website that, just by its very nature,
creates “buzz.” Cute, creative, inspirational, or
information-packed sites can develop a following just
because they are that “good!”

An example of a site that’s fast-developing into such a “buzz”
site that you can model is at: http://TheBestCatHouseEver.com
The url for the site is a play on words, and is one of the
factors that is causing the site to take off. Another factor
is the fact that the site focuses on cute, cuddly cats…
man’s second favorite pet. People will flock to this site
just because of the cute cat photos, and then they’ll tell
their friends about the site.

Create a site like http://TheBestCatHouseEver.com - tell the
world about it through articles and press releases - and
before you know it, you’ll have a flood of free traffic. If
you choose to, you can then redirect some of this traffic to
your other sites.

You can also set up the viral site so that it’s your main
profit center. For example, http://TheBestCatHouseEver.com
can earn money from Google AdSense, sponsor links, affiliate
products, and a store selling novelty items related to the
theme of the site.

I’ve just shown you ways to generate a FLOOD of highly-
targeted, responsive, free traffic to your websites. The
methods seem fairly simply, but they are proven. I use them
everyday. Incorporate them into your marketing mix and
you’ll soon find your website traffic rapidly increasing. Get
started today.

So What Did You Get For Christmas?

Sunday, December 25th, 2005

This post isn’t related to Internet marketing
but I’ll find a way to tie it in ;-)
As I relaxed a little this Christmas day, I
reflected upon the difference between
Christmas(es) past and today.

YES, even though I’m at the computer, I am
relaxing. I can only handle so much television
and then I start breaking out :-)
One of the hardest things I actually have
to do during the season is shopping. That’s
mainly because people today buy whatever they
want/need when they first think about it.

Easy credit makes it so that you no longer
have to plan up for major purchases.

I guess 100 years ago, when you needed
something, you saved up for it, and it was
easy enough for family members to see what
you really needed, so they could get you
that ideal present. You could get something
that showed you really knew them and their
needs.

Now, my daughters and wife buy whatever
they want, whenever they want it… within
reason. Try as I may, I cannot hammer the
idea of delayed gratification into my
youngest daughter’s head. I’m sure she’s like
most modern American consumers. “If you
were suppose to wait until you could afford
something, then it wouldn’t be availabe on
a ‘no money down’ plan.”

I solved the problem of shopping for my
daughters by giving them mostly cash. That way
they aren’t stuck with some trinket that they
will never use.

Last year, I gave my youngest one a stack of
$2 bills, mixed in with $1 bills. That was to make
it harder for her to count. I simply dropped by
my local bank and asked for some $2 bills. They
had hundreds in stock, so I grabbed a “bunch.”
Watching her reaction to that present was worth
the trouble.

So, what did I get for Christmas? Well… during
the few months leading up to Christmas, I got:

1) A car, from my youngest daughter. It wasn’t new.
When she gradudated from college, she wanted a new
car, so she gave me BACK the car I gave her 2 years
ago. The car is practically new and in excellent
condition… so that’s what I drive.

2) An Ediorol R1 Portable MP3 Recorder. I use this
to make MP3’s when I’m interviewing people at
seminars,etc. It’s a great way to generate a
product or two while traveling to seminars. It would
be a shame to NOT take advantage of the opportunity
when you have so many “personalities” gathered in
one place!

3) Mike Stewart’s and Jim Edward’s Course on doing
website audio and video

4) A new BlackBerry. That was actually free
after mail-in rebates.
It’s BlueTooth enabled and
just what I needed for surfing the web, checking
email, and consulting with clients… all while
out walking on the beach (or doing whatever I
feel like doing).

5) Two new suits. I speak a lot at seminars and
wanted some more fairly nice looking suits (which
also means EXPENSIVE). I only recenty discovered
that those suits are actually worth it. They feel
so much better and… I think… look better.

6) I started laying the groundwork for a new
house that we’ll build in 2006. This house will
have a bigger home office for me, a sound-proof
recording studio, more storage (to include walk-in
closest for my wife AND myself), and all of the
other little nicities that make life more
comfortable.

The house will be simple… nothing like the $1.8
million house that my neighbor 4 doors down just
finished building. His detached garage is as large
as my current house.

These are just the things that have come my way in
the last 2 months or so. Lots of other goodies
have come my way during the course of the year.

So, what’s my point?

It’s not to make those who didn’t get as many
presents, or comparable presents, jealous. In-fact,
I didn’t even tell you what I got “for Christmas.”

My point… and now I’m tying it into Internet
marketing, is that “The Internet Lifestyle” makes
it so that all year long is Christmas.
Owning
and operating your own homebased or online business
really does afford you the lifestyle that most
people only dream of.

Now, I know that many people are wondering,”So
How Do I Get To Live This Lifestyle?”

I got there by reading everything marketing
related that I could get my hands on. My house
is overflowing with CDs, audiotapes, videotapes,
course, DVDs, and huge courses in binders. I
spend a lot of time mastering my craft!

I also spend a lot of time traveling to semianrs
… where I take many times the notes that the
average attendee does. I also implement many ideas
that I pick up at these event… the very same day!

I study not only Internet marketers, but material
from Jay Abraham, Dan Kennedy, John Carlton, Gary
Halbert, Robert Cialdini, Ron LaGrand, Robert
Allen, and a dozen others. I completely immerse
myself in the material.

On top of that, I actually put the things that
I learn into action. If you haven’t reached the
level that you aspire to, that’s most-likely what
you’re NOT doing. That’s the one habit I developed
that really started turning my life around.

Ok, I need to get off my soap box, and off the
computer. We’re going to visit a number of friends
today. There are several Christmas parties that
we’re invited to. So, I’ll spend much of the next
several days eating a lot more than I should,
sitting around making small talk, and enjoying
the company of good friends. That may be my favorite
Christmas present… just spending time with friends.

I’ll try to take a few pictures to share with you.

Give the challenge that I indiretly issued to you
some thought… and we can talk about it in the New
Year.

Millionaire Blueprints - A Magazine Well Worth Checking Out

Saturday, December 24th, 2005

Being an online type, I read very few offline publications.

One magazine I’ve read every issue of since the very first issue ever published, is Millionaire Blueprints. Each issue features stories on a number of self-made millionaire entreperneurs. The stories are very inspiring and eye-opening.

What is most inspiring is how the people featured are really just ordinary, every-day people, who just decided to do something. Then they made it happen.

How To Make Money Online OUTSIDE Of “Internet Marketing”

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Here’s an ebook that is perhaps my altime favorite when it come to teaching you about selling goods and services online.

In this book, John Evans features interviews with people earning from $100,000 to $18 million per year selling items as diverse as furniture, magic tricks, membership sites, and even SOCKS. It’s very
insightful. I have this book on my list of books that I reread every six months. I always get lots of great insights from it.

The interviewees in this book basically opened their business up to you sharing:
- What they sell
- How they sell it
- How the built and maintain their sites
- How they generate traffic
- How they deal with suppliers
- How they handle any employees
… all the stuff you’d want to know so that you could set up similar businesses.

I’ve actually met a couple of the people featured in the book which makes it even more special.

Willie Crawford & The Cat House?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

One of my “pet” projects is a website that I
know will go viral and do very well. The website
will be at: http://TheBestCatHouseEver.com

Part of what will make it go viral is the play
on words that the domain name affords. For the
“uninitiated” “cathouse” is also slang for
brothel. However, I’m using the term to mean
a house for man’s second favorite pet (the cat).

Cat lovers may argue the point, but “dogs” are
the most popular pet :-)
Anyway, my concept for the site is a simple site
that features pictures of cats and their houses.
Cat lovers will frequent the site just to browse
the pictures and other things I’ll eventually have
on the site.

As word of the site spreads thru viral techniques
that I’ve already set into motion, the site will
get an incredible amount of traffic.

I won’t share everything about the site, but will
say that part of my revenue stream will be from
selling links from the site. Permanent links will
cost only $25 each. If you’ve checked out the
cost of links from text link brokers, you know
that this is a bargain provided I can push the
site to a PR4 or higher, which has never been a
challenge for me.

Other revenue will be generate from pet related
products, through affiliate programs, and maybe
AdSense AND sales of items like t-shirts, caps,
mousepads, coffee mugs, posters,etc. These
imprinted items will have catchy saying like:

“Yes, I Admit Being A Frequent Visitor To
The Best Cat House Ever.com”

“My Wife And I BOTH Hang Out At The Best
Cat House Ever.com”

“Happiness Is A Visit To The Best Cat House
Ever.com”

“I’m Smiling Because I Just Visited The Best
Cat House Ever.com”

etc.

You get the idea.

After the site is really rolling, I’ll probably
share some of the unconventional promotional
techniques that I bring to bear to drive traffic
to this site “through the roof.”

I do need a favor from you though, and it could
send you a lot of traffic.
If you have a photo
of your pet cat, in or near a cathouse, I’d love
to feature it on the site. The photo would be
near the top of its own page, and I’d provide
a permanent link back to your site in the
caption for the photo.

Who knows, this may even make your pet famous
and land it a role in a cat food commercial :-)
