Last week I turned 50.
As I’m sure happens to many upon reaching the
“half-century mark” I spent time asking myself if I was
really doing the things that I wanted to “spend” my life
doing.
At my birthday party in Orlando I also had a number of
very proactive friends kick me into action.
One of them was a friend who was 103 pounds overweight
(and a heavy drinker) as a teenager. She managed to lose
over those pounds in her early 20′s (and stop drinking),
and kept has it off for over 21 YEARS.
I spent the weekend with a number of other equally as
impressive friends… “do-ers.”
Laura Fenamore is the one who lost the weight and she
shared with my birthday bash attendees that it’s not
about the weight. It’s about learning to love yourself.
Laura shared that when you really care about yourself,
the pounds really melt off effortlessly… and they
stay off, because you learn to love YOU.
Laura lost those 103 pounds in just one year!

Laura and over 2 dozen other friends also issued
another challenge to me. They asked…
“If not now, then when?”
And they challenged me, and the other birthday party
attendees to be honest with ourselves.
You can fool the outside world, and I guess that’s ok.
However, When you delude or lie to yourself – that’s sad.
I decided this past weekend to make the rest of my life
different… at least living it on my terms.
I challenge you to do the same. Decide that today is
when you’ll at least take an honest look at what’s
happening to you.
