theme.

That doesn’t mean that you can’t still use the same theme,
but if a lot of your subscribers are on others lists who
used the same theme, then you could seem like a copycat.

“get out of a predicament.”

It’s no secret that the recession is hitting hard in
many places and many people have lost jobs, homes,
businesses, and had relationships seriously impacted.

I hear from people regularly just struggling to keep their
electricity turned or to buy a bag of groceries.

They often drop by discussion boards in the “how to make
money niche” because the people who hang out there are
either “experts” or people seeking to learn the topic.

They are there to learn how to get their share of the
online gold rush, so what better place to ask others “HOW”
one can get out of a bind quickly.

Let me share with you how I generated a LOT of much needed
cash 5 years ago, and how I would STILL do it today.

Back in February 2006, my youngest daughter told me that
she was going to get married, and described the wedding that
she envisioned.

I did some quick number crunching, and realized that I
needed to do something creative to make a lot of cash…
fairly quickly.

What I did was I asked dozens of my online friends to
contribute items to a “fire sale.” I called it my
“Wedding Fire Sale” and you can read about it here:

Yes, that’s the actual site that I used way back in 2006.
I was just over at that daughter’s house last night

What I did was I went to dozens of my friends and ask them
to GIVE away their products to help me to build a huge
pack of software, ebooks, etc. Many said “sure!”

I also added a few of my own products… many of which
were created from private label rights!

This package quite literally had a total value of over $4500
by the time that I was finished.

I sold this for a giveaway price but with the price
increasing every few days, and I allowed other to sign up
as affiliates to earn 50% commission just by helping to
spread the word.

The fire sale didn’t go off without a hitch because I
was using some new software that hadn’t been thoroughly
tested BUT I launched my fire sale for that very reason.

Let me explain… a new product had just been released
that taught all about fire sales, and how to do them. That
package including some scripts (software) that could be
used to run a fire sale, but the software had a few…
bugs

So, on the discussion forums lots of people were talking
about using the software to do fire sales, or to launch
memberships sites, BUT the loudest voices on the forums
were those complaining about the imperfections in the
software.

I realized that YES a LOT of people loved the idea of
doing fire sales, and a ton of people would be doing them
soon, and my “niche” might tire of them rapid, so I decided
to get ahead of the wave.

I rigged together a system… patching the buggy software…
and ran with it… while others waited for software
improvements.

Because I was decisive, and took action while the timing
was perfect, my fire sale ended up doing over $104k in
sales… selling mostly stuff that people had GIVEN to me.

Lots of others did fire sales later, and most of theirs
didn’t do anywhere as well as mine did.

Today, I’d like to submit to you that one of the fastest,
and easiest, ways to generate some fast cash is to do your
own fire sale.

Unlike back in 2006 when I had to rely solely on email,
today you have the viral power of social media to also
tap into. Now your friends can help to spread the word
with a tweet to their followers, or a note on their
Facebook wall… in addition to email, Skype, forums, etc.

I tested it by setting up a 3-day sale, not wanting to
do a longer one since it’s harder to focus people’s
attention on things for long these days

Now, here’s the real secret…

You’re going to put together a bundle of “stuff” to
offer people in your niche at a mere fraction of the value.

You absolutely, positively need to make sure that that
bundle of stuff contains things that people actually want.

I have seen people do fire sales recently that had marginal
… to DISMAL results, The problem was they offered unwanted,
out-dated JUNK that their target customers could easily see
was largely a waste of their time.

You need to find stuff that has real value for your
customers.

The easiest way to do that is to ask others to contribute
items to help out with your cause. You may or may not want
to set things up so that your customers have to visit each
contributor’s site… with each contributor being allowed
to offer your customers the opportunity to join their list
or to buy one of their additional products.

That can be tricky because the customer has already paid
for the product, and should not be forced it jump through
too many hoops to get it. At the same time, you are more
likely to get more people contributing really valuable
stuff IF you allow them to also build their list on the
back of your fire sale.

Another critical part is that you need a theme that will
resonate with your potential customers. My wedding fire
sale worked because every parent on my list could envision
helping their own child plan and pay for a wedding. Every
person on my list who had recently married or contemplated
it, could also relate… it was just a warm and fuzzy theme

Now… not to sound harsh, but I just told you that lots of
people are having a hard time. So, you may want to have a
fire sale related to a damaged roof, being evicted, or
the 20 year old rusting clunker finally quitting… but be
careful. So many people are approached by people in similar
situations lately that I would definitely make it somewhat
lighthearted and uplifting.

What I’m saying there is that I would not try to make people
feel guilty or depressed as my angle. Instead, I would tell
them about the hard time that I’m having, but also show that
I’m fighting my way out… and only asking for a hand.

Your message needs to be that they are getting a great
value on something that they actually want, and get to feel
good about helping you in the process. They win TWICE,
you win, and if the fire sale also has an affiliate program built
intoit, even those helping to spread the word win.

So, there you have it. How I’ve done it, and how I’d do
it today.
