Many of us make plans for the next year as each
year draws to a close. I’m no different there.
If anything is different, it’s that I make my
“New Year’s Resolution” in November rather than
December… and it’s more a plan than a vague
promise.
I’ve already mapped out 2009, and beyond, and have
a good feel for exactly where my online business
is headed.
Please allow me to share some of that with you
today… you may want to do something similar.
Several years back, one of my mentors really
hammered into me that in online marketing it is
MUCH easier to “hit a single” with a product
launch or a new website, than it is to “hit a
homerun.”
That is, it’s very easy to set up a simple website
that generates just $10 - $50 per day… consistently.
It’s much harder to set up a website that generates
thousands of dollars per day, although certainly
not impossible.
Another mentor taught me to think of having numerous
websites as being similar to having a vending
machine route, with hundreds of vending machines
around the city. None of the machines need to have
a HUGE volume as long as many of them consistently
make sales.
He taught me that it’s better to consistently collect
“10 cents” from thousands of regularly-occurring sales,
than it is to sporadically collect thousands of dollars
from a few sales.
I’ve embraced that philosophy, and have over the years
set up a number of websites that consistently make
sales day-in and day-out.
In 2009, I’ll just be setting up a TON more of these
websites.
I’ll share with you that March 2009 is when I’ll turn
50 years old. I do view “turning half a century” as
a significant landmark. It does cause me to reflect
upon how I operate my online businesses and why.
It causes me to examine my deeper purpose.
It causes me to contemplate eventually retiring.
It causes me to examine how each of my online
businesses touch the lives of others, and how
meaningful… purposeful those businesses actually
are.
So, my plan for 2009 is to set up “xxxx” websites
that each average $10 - $20 per day. Cumulatively,
that will be HUGE.
I know that this is possible because I already
have numerous websites far exceeding that modest
goal.
The only thing that will be different in 2009 is
that I’ll accelerate the pace - since the process
itself is already proven, and VERY refined.
The hardest part of the process was making the
workload manageable, and plugging-in inexpensive,
dependable traffic. Here’s how I’m doing that:

This is part of how I’ll host all those sites for
about 4 cents per month, per site.
In case you’re wondering why I want to build such
a HUGE online empire, part of the answer is that I
do see a lot of charitable projects that I want to
help out financially.
I will be contributing to a lot to my favorite
charities. Not surprisingly, as I age, and watch
many of my friends age, some of those charities are
health-related. My online efforts will be more
meaningful because I’ll be contributing to helping
find a solution to some of our most persistent health
problems.
I’ll also anonymously contribute to causes where the
people who are helped will have no idea WHO is
helping them. One of my mentors taught me the joy
of giving with the expectation of getting nothing in
return.
When you build an online empire like the one that I
just described, you’re also working on your retirement
plan. You see, certain ones of your sites will
naturally become worth a LOT of money. So, you’ll
periodically sell off select properties.
I plan on doing that and investing the proceeds in
other things (property, interest in companies, etc.)
It is important to diversify to reduce your risk.
I’ve also seen too many people work VERY hard at
building an online business, and then see a major shift
in technology, laws, or even consumer taste, cause their
business to dry up virtually overnight.
