			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>What is one of the easiest, surest ways to build<br />
a successful online business with a dependable<br />
income?</p>
<p>Buy an existing, already successful business!</p>
<p>Think about it&#8230; the current owner has already<br />
made all of the mistakes, gone through the learning<br />
curve, and put all of the tested systems in place.</p>
<p>You just step in, maybe make a few minor tweaks,<br />
and you have a real business, that makes you money<br />
from day-1.</p>
<p>One of the first questions you should ask is, &#8220;Why<br />
would anyone sell a proven successful business that<br />
is actually very profitable, and will continue to<br />
be so for the foreseeable future?&#8221;</p>
<p>Asking that question might uncover reasons that you<br />
should definitely NOT buy a given business. </p>
<p>I have people approach me all of the time asking me<br />
to help them find buyers for their businesses. They<br />
give me two main reasons for selling:</p>
<p>1) The business is taking too much time away from<br />
family or other priorities.  I see this most with<br />
parents of young children who simply want to cash<br />
out and spend more time taking their children to<br />
the park, and going on school trips with them.</p>
<p>2) They have too many projects going at once and<br />
realize that unless they let go of some, none of<br />
them will be as successful as they should be.</p>
<p>I see this with people who remind me a lot of myself.<br />
They come up with dozens of great ideas in a single<br />
day, implement many of them over time, and then find<br />
that they simply have too many divergent businesses<br />
going at once.   These are friends that often<br />
reach out to me, asking if I want to buy their<br />
businesses.</p>
<p>As you consider taking over an existing, already<br />
successful business, there are questions that you<br />
absolutely need to answer. Some of the most<br />
important ones are:</p>
<p>1) How easy is it for someone to simply see what you<br />
are doing, and create a very similar site/business.<br />
If it&#8217;s too easy to duplicate, then I tend to stay<br />
away.</p>
<p>2) Is the niche just a fad or has it been around<br />
for a while, and will it continue to grow?</p>
<p>3) How much traffic does the website already get?<br />
How well positioned are they in the search engines?<br />
Where do their customers come from and how do they<br />
find the site?</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve seen sites sell for LESS than the value of existing<br />
organic search engine traffic.  With a site like this,<br />
you just take over and it effortlessly pays for itself!</p>
<p>4) Is there a customer/member/subscriber/affiliate<br />
database, and how big is it?</p>
<p>In some niches, a list is easily worth several dollars<br />
per member, per month.  In other niches, the same<br />
size list is worth much less.</p>
<p>5) How much time will it take to manage the site?<br />
Can this management be outsourced or handed off to a<br />
manager?</p>
<p>If they are selling because they didn&#8217;t have enough<br />
time to really focus on it, will things be different<br />
for you?</p>
<p>6) Will the current owner or project manager stay on<br />
for a while to help you ease into the business?</p>
<p>7)  What market forces might change demand for that<br />
product?  </p>
<p>You do want to take on most businesses with an eye<br />
toward increasing their value and then selling them.<br />
Go in with an exit plan, or you&#8217;re just creating a job<br />
for yourself.</p>
<p>Those are just a few of many things to consider.  You<br />
should also bounce the idea off of a trusted friend or<br />
two&#8230; or your mastermind group. They might see things<br />
that you didn&#8217;t consider, or might have even tried<br />
something similar before.</p>
<p>I sincerely believe that it&#8217;s often a LOT cheaper to<br />
simply step into an existing proven business.  </p>
<p>We also realize that the wrong business can be a HUGE<br />
mistake!</p>
<p>Why do I bring up this topic in the first place?</p>
<p>Well, I did tell you that I broker businesses from time<br />
to time.  I DO have friends/contacts/clients with<br />
businesses for sale.</p>
<p>These businesses have been around for a while, have<br />
customer bases, and all sell for six figures.  </p>

personally observed.</p>
<p>Some will read this and think coincidence&#8230; I don&#8217;t<br />
believe in coincidence.  </p>
<p>I agree with Albert Einstein, who said &#8220;There are only<br />
two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is<br />
a miracle. The other is as though everything is a<br />
miracle.&#8221;</p>
<p>Like Einstein, I actually live my life as though<br />
everything is a miracle.</p>
<p>Anyway, back in 2004, I built a very simple blog.</p>
<p>In 2005 I built a second blog, and a year later I<br />
built a third blog. Each of these blogs were on<br />
different topics that I had a deep personal interest<br />
in.</p>
<p>Like most blogs out there, mine got a reasonable<br />
number of visitors, but nothing spectacular.</p>
<p>Then, one day I watched a video showing a blog that<br />
was very, very simple, and that obviously took very<br />
little work to maintain&#8230; but that had recently<br />
sold for $130 million.</p>
<p>I watched that video three or four times, back-to-back,<br />
because I wanted to make sure that I understood<br />
what really made that simple blog so valuable.</p>
<p>Then I committed to going back and changing all three<br />
of my blogs to that model.</p>
<p>What happened next IS my first proof of miracles.</p>
<p>However, before I share with you my results in making<br />
a few simple changes to how I maintained those blogs<br />

<p>Even if you only build a few dozen sites, this was<br />
an a great bargain.</p>
<p>However, <strong>I got the INSANE idea of actually building<br />
5000 niche websites</strong> (mostly WordPress blogs). </p>
<p>My idea was to build them in niches that my<br />
research showed were profitable, cross-link<br />
them using the hub and spoke methods, and&#8230;</p>
<p>in some niches, eventually dominate.</p>
<p>My thinking was that some of these sites would do<br />
really, really well, and others wouldn&#8217;t but if I<br />
had<strong> 5000 sites each averaging just $1 per day&#8230;.. </strong></p>
<p>well&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>You Do The Math<br />
</strong><br />
I also knew that some sites would really take off,<br />
and at that point I could either sell those sites<br />
off for a NICE profit or, I could hang on to those<br />
cash-cows and just collect monthly income.</p>
<p>NOTE:<br />
I actually ended up plugging many of those sites that<br />
I DID build into a traffic generation network, where<br />
I sell the traffic to others!</p>
<p>I also knew that like most internet marketers, I had<br />
a hard drive FULL of resale rights, and private label<br />
rights products that I had purchased and did NOTHING<br />
with.</p>
<p>Granted, most of those products were garbage from the<br />
very beginning, or had grow out of date, BUT&#8230;</p>
<p>Some were real gems where the product creators had<br />
put in a lot of time, energy, and other resources into<br />
creating a great product, often with a great set of<br />
graphics, and a great sales letter.</p>
<p><strong>I had several HUNDRED products that I could easily<br />
actually put on domains (or sub-domains), plug in<br />
a Paypal button, and start making money from.<br />

However, I had to admit that without traffic, you don&#8217;t<br />
really have any sales. SO, I created affiliate programs<br />
for many of these sites, setting up instant paying<br />
affiliate programs on some of them&#8230; often using my<br />
friend Sid Hale&#8217;s <a href="http://timic.org/rap">Rapid Action Profits</a> script to<br />

<p>Not wanting my products to look and feel like cheap<br />
PLR or resale rights products, I DID often revise them,<br />
have new graphics created, and update the sales pages<br />
to add things like testimonials from actual customers.</p>

<p>I was recently reading a book called &#8220;The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of<br />
Leadership&#8221; by John Maxwell.  In his book, John points out that<br />
when outside experts take over companies with the tasking to turn<br />
them around, the very first thing that they usually do is FIRE the<br />
top management.   The experts reason that if the top management<br />
were effective then the company wouldn&#8217;t be failing. </p>
<p>The outside experts reasoned that bad management ,  making poor<br />
decisions, was one of the  big reasons WHY these businesses were<br />
failing.  </p>
<p>Having spent 20 years in the military, where I was groomed to<br />
lead, and having formal college training in business management,<br />
that makes perfect sense to me. </p>
<p>I had not previously given the topic of leadership a lot of thought<br />
because my focus was on how to build a successful online business,<br />
and I hadn&#8217;t really made the connection between the two.  I HAD<br />
noticed that many of the online entrepreneurs, and indeed, many local<br />
offline business owners are begging to be led.</p>
<p>So many are begging to be led that my single highest-priced product<br />

<p>I&#8217;ve gotten off topic slightly, but you&#8217;ll see how this all ties<br />
together momentarily.  A good business executive is worth a lot,<br />
and if you are running your own online business, you need to<br />
become an effective business executive.  </p>
<p>In a recent post to FaceBook, I pointed out that not everyone is<br />
meant to own their own business.  I went on to hint at a few of<br />
the traits needed to be an effective business owner.  That post was<br />
partly inspired by the fact that I have interacted with so many<br />
owners of failing businesses lately.  </p>
<p>People come to me asking &#8220;What am I doing wrong?&#8221;  </p>
<p>People come to me asking for suggestions on how to improve their<br />
businesses, and if I dig a little deeper, I see that what they are<br />
often asking is &#8220;How do I save this sinking ship.&#8221;</p>
<p>I tell some of them how to turn their businesses around.</p>
<p>I spot what&#8217;s wrong with some businesses, see that the owners<br />
aren&#8217;t the right person for turning them around, and sometimes<br />
offer to buy those businesses&#8230; with plans on putting the proper<br />
management/leadership in place.</p>
<p>I point out to some business owners the sad fact that they are<br />
marketing a product that the market simply doesn&#8217;t want&#8230; and<br />
is unlikely to want any time soon.</p>
<p>For the businesses that I do help turn around, I do the following<br />
things:</p>
<p>1) Look at their existing product mix, confirming that they are<br />
offering what the market wants, and that it&#8217;s appropriately<br />
priced.</p>
<p>2)  Look at their business processes.  Often their system needs<br />
to be replaced with one that&#8217;s more effective.  Often they don&#8217;t<br />
even HAVE a system. They are running the business by reacting<br />
to emergencies rather than executing a plan.</p>
<p>3) Look at the business&#8217; assets, looking for assets that are<br />
under-utilized.  THIS is often what allows me to most easily turn<br />
a failing business around.  I guide the business owners through<br />
identifying and re-deploying or leveraging those assets.</p>
<p>4) Look for other businesses that can form strategic relationships<br />
or partnerships with the failing business&#8230; to benefit both<br />
businesses.  Often the failing business owner DOESN&#8217;T have<br />
critical resources or know-how and CAN&#8217;T succeed unless they<br />
leverage others&#8217; assets. I help these businesses form strategic<br />
alliances or joint ventures.  I create new partnerships, and in<br />
the process often save several failing businesses.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s how I turn a failing business around. That&#8217;s how you can<br />
turn your own failing business around.   I&#8217;ll look deeper into<br />
each of the aspects listed above in future articles. For now,<br />

view of what your business really looks like and why it might be<br />
struggling.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>For much of the past 15 years, I&#8217;ve had my own websites,<br />
hosted on my own domain names.  My very first sites were<br />
on free hosting accounts (Angelfire, FreeYellow, etc.)<br />
and then I had caring friends email me and personally tell<br />
me that as long as I did that I had NO credibility.</p>
<p>They pointed out that using free web hosting accounts and<br />
free email accounts not only branded someone else&#8230; but<br />
more importantly&#8230; they showed my potential customers<br />
that I did not have enough confidence in my long-term<br />
business success to even invest in my own domain name.</p>
<p>They told me that I appeared too fly-by-night.</p>
<p>I listened, began buying my own domain names, and 15 years<br />
later, it&#8217;s obvious that I&#8217;m here for the long-haul.</p>
<p>I do currently use a Gmail account as well as numerous<br />
emails on my own domains.  I like many of the email<br />
handling capabilities built into Gmail but that&#8217;s not<br />
what this post is about.</p>
<p><strong>This post is an open invitation for you to start expecting,<br />
even demanding, more from your web host. </strong></p>
<p>For much of the past 15 years, I felt sort of like I was<br />
being held hostage by my hosts.  If I needed help with a<br />
problem, I&#8217;d submit a ticket, and they would eventually<br />
get back to me.  At several of those hosts, I actually had<br />
to visit customer support forums where OTHERS<br />
CUSTOMERS sort of helped you to trouble-shoot. </p>
<p>I learned the hard way that when you buy really, really<br />
cheap hosting, typically they can&#8217;t afford to have tech<br />
support personnel sitting around waiting for your &#8220;trouble<br />
tickets.&#8221;</p>
<p>So when I got really serious, and acknowledged that I<br />
could NOT afford to have my websites offline even .01%<br />
of the time, I moved to dedicated servers with my own<br />
support team.</p>
<p>At some point, you may be ready for a dedicated server,<br />
but most of my subscribers and friends aren&#8217;t.  </p>
<p>You probably just need shared hosting with a company that<br />
also offers world-class hosting at an affordable price.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s NOT an easy feat to accomplish since there are so<br />
many variables in the hosting business. There are as<br />
many possible server configurations as there are<br />
imaginative individuals.</p>
<p><strong>Most hosting companies, in an effort to maximize profits,<br />
simply pack as many accounts onto each server as possible.<br />
They know that they’ve overdone it when a server bogs<br />
down.</strong></p>
<p>I’ve caused more than one server to bog down, because I<br />
build some fairly resource intensive sites. When that<br />
happened, my hosts wisely asked me to consider a dedicated<br />
server… as they should have. </p>
<p>Despite what you want to believe, <strong>there is no such thing as<br />
shared hosting with unlimited EVERYTHING.</strong> That’s<br />
impossible since just ONE customer could hog all of the<br />
server resources… slowing  his and all of the other customers’<br />
websites to a crawl.    </p>
<p>Still, in 2008, I found what I considered my ideal host.<br />
The company was run by my good friend, David Perdew, who<br />
shares many of the same values and beliefs that I do. I<br />
became one of David&#8217;s customers but also held on to two<br />
of my existing dedicated servers.</p>
<p>David owned <a href="http://NicheSimple.com">http://NicheSimple.com</a> which is where I set<br />
up more sites than most people would ever consider<br />
setting up, and NEVER had a problem with any of them.</p>
<p>When I had questions, I&#8217;d sometimes &#8220;ping&#8221; David on<br />
Skype, and he would personally take care of my question<br />
sometimes handling tech support issues for me.</p>
<p>David did that because he was (is) my friend, because<br />
he wanted me to be a happy customer, and perhaps even<br />
because I was one of his top affiliates&#8230; and he wanted<br />
me to be able to confidently recommend Niche Simple to my<br />
clients.  </p>
<p>I did continuously recommend Niche Simple because I knew<br />
that David and his team would take good care of them.  </p>
