Internet Marketing On A Shoestring Budget - Part 1

The current economic recession is causing many people
starting online businesses to make some tough decisions.
Often these are also BAD decisions.

During tough times, businesses traditionally cut the
one expense that they often DON’T need to cut… which
is advertising. Instead you just need to spend wiser,
and you will gain market-share BECAUSE your competitors
are cutting back.

Still, many online marketers today are looking for ways to
grow their businesses on a shoestring budget.

One of the most obvious ways is to go out and find things that
you need for your business that you can get for free.

For example, unless you’ve lived under a rock for the past
year, it’s difficult not to notice all of the free
cooperative list-building giveaways being organized by
internet marketers.

Sometimes, hundreds of marketers come together and each
contributes one (or several) free items. They list all of
their items on one central website, but usually require you
to visit the individual contributors’ sites to download each
item.

The gift contributors are willing to do this because it’s
a proven effective way to build their subscriber lists.

You can find free:

- Ebooks and courses
- MP3 audios
- Videos
- Access to membership sites
- Advertising credits
- Resale Rights Products that will readily sell
- Private Label Rights Products that you can rework and
turn into best-sellers
- Software that allows you to operate your business more
efficiently and effectively.
- A tons of other free items…

There is one BIG problem with free stuff though… you often
get what you pay for. Sifting though all of the freebies to
find the gems is often more trouble than it’s worth.

It does take time to examine this stuff and determine
whether or not it’s worthwhile to download. We sometimes
get back to the question my older relatives use to ask me…
“Do you have more time or money?”

Today, time is my most limited resource, but I realize that
is not the case for everyone. So, if you have lots of free
time, it IS worthwhile to visit these free giveaway sites
and look for tools to grow your business on a shoestring
budget.

If you DON’T have a lot of free time, but still want to take
advantage of the free giveaways, there is a solution.

That solution is to trust the recommendations of an ezine
publisher or marketer who has EARNED your trust by making
only “solid” recommendations. Check out the free giveaways
that they recommend.

However, if you want to find the very best free giveaways

First of all, I hope that your Christmas Day was as
delight-filled as mine.

My 25-year-old daughter dropped by for about 3 hours, and over
lunch I marveled at what a terrific young lady she has grown
into

Then we went over to a friend house where eight couples ate,
watched television, told jokes, sang karaoke, and just enjoyed
each others’ company.

We just “hung out” for about eight hours.

I had a very peaceful and serene day.

Several times, the conversation among “the guys” turned to
work.

All of the guys were former or retired military. Several
of them went back to work for the U.S. Government as soon
as they retired from their military careers.

I listened patiently… really interested in what life was
like for “the rest of the world”

This morning, I was reminded of why I don’t have to get up
every morning and fight the traffic, and deal with the
office politics. I don’t have to contend with jobs where
the recession is causing them to “do more with less” as they
lay-off people while still trying to increase overall
productivity.

I logged in this morning… to ONE of FIVE accounts that I
have with ProfitAutomation.com. That account has a database
of 266,000+ subscribers.

That one asset is probably worth more than many of the
struggling companies that some of my friends work for…
really. There are a lot of small companies in my area that
compete on a year-to-year basis for government contacts.
Many of these businesses come and go each year, so some of
my friends are forever looking for new jobs.

Anyway, I’ve rambled long enough.

Will Subscribers From Free List-Building Giveaways EVER Buy Anything

One of the ongoing discussions in the world of Internet
marketing is whether it’s worthwhile to participate in
free “list-building giveaways” as a contributor.

In these events, sometimes several hundred marketers ban
together on a big list-building project. Each marketer
contributes a gift related to the theme of the giveaway.
Some events allow more than one gift per contributor.

The marketers list their gifts on the main giveaway
site, but generally require those collecting the gifts to
visit their individual sites and join their mailing list,
prior to giving them access to the gifts.

This is how you build your list as a contributor.

The question is, “Since these new subscribers were
forced through a squeeze page and may not have otherwise
joined your list are they good subscribers?”

A second question is “Since they just finished downloading
a TON of free gifts, why would they turn around and buy
anything from you.

Let look briefly at both of those questions.

In response to the first question, I teach that you have
to take your time and build a meaningful relationship
with your new subscribers. Deliver genuine value and they
will stay on your list. Then, if you offer things that they
need, they will buy from you because they feel a connection.

Building that relationship STARTS with offering a quality
gift on that very first contact. So many people who
participate in free list-building giveaways offer gifts
that they would be INSULTED if someone offered the same
gifts to them.

I participate in free giveaways with excellent results.
The gifts that I offer are often brand new audios, software,
and ebooks that I create especially for the giveaways. I
do reuse them later. I always make sure that the gifts I offer
has high perceived value.

When you give your new subscribers something that actually
helps them, they are likely to stick around, and grow to
“know,like and trust you” because they see that you actually
care about them.

In response to the second question, I sometimes offer
low-priced products right on the download page where I give
the free gift. If the offer is enticing enough, a high
percentage of these customers will buy.

However, I also understand that part of my job as an ezine
publisher is to serve as a filter. If my new subscribers did
indeed download lots of different items from a free giveaway,
and a percentage of them were… JUNK, but mine was high
quality, then they learn to expect quality from me, and will
pay more attention to future offers from me than they will
from the marketers who filled their hard drives with a bunch
of useless “fluff.”

So to the question, “Will subscribers from free giveaways EVER
buy anything? the answer is an unequivocal YES, provided you
did your job.

What was your job though?

It was to treat the new potential subscribers that visit these
free giveaway sites with the same respect that you’d like to
receive. It’s to treat these new “customers” as the life’s
blood of your business. Treated right, they will be.

One of the biggest complaints that I hear from my
contacts in internet marketing is that I have an
advantage because I have “alist.”

Yes, I do have a list. In fact, after 12 years, I’ve
built a nice list (actually several niche sublists).

At the same time I can point you to a friend who

a friend who built a smaller list, but in only a few
months, he built a list good enough to replace his
six-figure income!

The thing is, many of those complaining about having
no list were complaining 3-5 years ago, and they still
haven’t started building one.

way to start building your list.

I’m going to show you exactly HOW to do this.
