			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Twice today I was asked by potential clients,<br />
one of whom later became a client, &#8220;How Many<br />
JV Brokers Should I Use?&#8221;</p>
<p>My answer, and that of other TOP JV Brokers,<br />
is ONE.</p>
<p>When I negotiate to broker a joint venture<br />
with a client&#8230; typically for a product<br />
launch&#8230; I usually insist upon exclusivity.</p>
<p>I do want my client to make as many sales<br />
as practical, but I also want to maximize<br />
the results of my time and effort.</p>
<p>As a JV broker, I phone, email, snail mail,<br />
DM on FaceBook, Twitter and niche forums,Skype,<br />
send packages via Airborne and FedEx, Send<br />
Greeting Cards And Lumpy Mail, use the search<br />
engines and various software tools to identify<br />
ideal JV partners in a given niche, and talk<br />
to potential JV partners in person.  In other<br />
words, I put a LOT of effort into finding<br />
JV partners (usually spelled affiliates) for<br />
my clients.  </p>
<p>I insist upon exclusivity partly because I<br />
get asked to broker so many JV&#8217;s that I can<br />
be very picky.</p>
<p>Google the term Joint Venture Expert, and I<br />
typically have 6 out of the top 10 positions<br />
on the first page.</p>
<p>Google the term joint venture broker, and<br />
I also do very well. I founded <a href="http://IAJVB.ORG">The International<br />
Association Of Joint Venture Brokers</a>, and<br />
co-founded <a href="http://TheJVUniversity.com/willie">The JV University</a>.  I teach and<br />
certify others to be very effective JV<br />
brokers:-)</p>
<p>One thing that is very important to remember<br />
when doing a product launch is the 80/20<br />
rule.  You would assume that if you go out and<br />
recruit a lot of affiliates/JV partners they<br />
are going to send you a lot more sale.</p>
<p>The reality is that, for the affiliate<br />
programs I&#8217;ve looked at behind the scenes,<br />
it was more like 95% of sales were made by<br />
the top 5% of affiliates.</p>
<p>That would suggest that recruiting affiliates,<br />
as either a product owner or JV broker is NOT<br />
about getting as many affiliates as you can<br />
Rather, it&#8217;s about identifying and getting the<br />
right affiliates onboard.  You want the<br />
affiliates/JV Partners who can deliver the<br />
RESULTS!</p>
<p>Something most product owners don&#8217;t consider<br />
is that having too many affiliates can<br />
backfire, causing the really effective<br />
potential JV partners to &#8220;pass&#8221; on a<br />
promotion.  </p>
<p>It&#8217;s very common practice for a product owner<br />
to tell potential JV partners in a JV<br />
proposal, who is already onboard. However<br />
that will cause many super affiliate to not<br />
participate in the promotion, or register so<br />
that they can monitor and learn from the<br />
promotion, but not actively promote.</p>
<p>I have been a part of product launches that<br />
only had 10 TOTAL affiliates. They had a<br />
target number of units that they wanted to<br />
sell, they went after super affiliate who<br />
could deliver results, and they told them<br />
that they wouldn&#8217;t be competing against<br />
everybody and his brother. This caused those<br />
super affiliate (which often included me) to<br />
promote harder, sending multiple<br />
mailings, and really doing a complete CAMPAIGN<br />
for those product launches.</p>
<p>Just food for thought.  </p>
<p>All things being equal, you&#8217;d think that having<br />
multiple JV brokers would bring in more JV<br />
partners. In my experience, it&#8217;s just caused<br />
NONE of the JV brokers to work very hard.</p>
<p>All things being equal, you&#8217;d think that<br />
bragging to &#8220;Mr. Big&#8221; about how many JV partners<br />
you already have would provide  some kind of<br />
social proof.  However, affiliate marketers<br />
who have been around for a while understand<br />
what I&#8217;m trying to get across in this rant.</p>
<p>On the bottom-line, many potential JV partners<br />
choose what products they promote based upon<br />
who the product owner, or JV broker is. We all<br />
like to work with and help our friends&#8230;. but<br />

<p>In online marketing it is critical that you keep up with what is<br />
going on in your industry. You do need to know  who is doing<br />
what &#8211; and why they are doing it.  You do  need to take the<br />
time to  research potential joint venture partners, products,<br />
and competing businesses.</p>
<p>Here are four excellent tools and how to use them.</p>
<p>1) Internet Archive &#8211; Also known as &#8220;The Way Back Machine&#8221;<br />
at <a href="http://Archive.org">http://Archive.org</a></p>
<p>There are actually many facets to this amazing site but the<br />
feature  that I use most is the ability to look at  a historical<br />
snapshot of  a website/domain.  </p>
<p>There is a box on the site where you can enter any url, and it<br />
will  show you &#8220;snapshots&#8221; taken of that website over time.</p>
<p>For example, if your were to enter my domain<br />
&#8220;williecrawford.com&#8221;  you&#8217;d see be able to sift through actual<br />
archived pages from my website between December 1998 and today.<br />
Every week or two a new  snapshot of the site was taken and<br />
stored in the Archive.org database.</p>
<p>That lets you confirm how long a website has been online<br />
(provided it was archived), lets you see how a business evolved<br />
over time, and  will even reveal to you things a marketer may<br />
have been testing that perhaps didn&#8217;t work out.</p>
<p>I use this tool to confirm how long a site/person has been in<br />
business.  I also use it to confirm how long a person has<br />
actually been in a particular niche or discipline.  I use it in<br />
deciding who to actually form business relationships with.</p>
<p>If you discover practices contrary to your own standards, or<br />
that a potential business partner hasn&#8217;t been totally honest<br />
with you, then  you  certainly want to proceed with caution&#8230;<br />
or look deeper.</p>
<p>2) Google Alerts &#8211; At <a href="http://www.google.com/alerts/">http://www.google.com/alerts/</a></p>
<p>You can set an alert to have Google notify you via email any<br />
time that it finds a new occurrence of a term online (on a<br />
webpage, blog, etc.)</p>
<p>I set alerts for my name, my product names, my urls, and<br />
competitors&#8217; names/products/urls.  </p>
<p>Any time the system finds someone &#8220;talking about&#8221; the target<br />
term, it  will send you an email (at whatever frequency you<br />
specify)  notifying  you of the new finds.</p>
<p>Once a day, I get emails notifying me of where my target terms<br />
has just  been discovered. This points you to places where you<br />
are being blogged  about, mentioned in articles, discussed on<br />
forums,  etc.</p>
<p>It could alert you to positive or negative publicity that you<br />
want to  be aware of.</p>
<p>3) Tweet Beeps &#8211; Similar To Google Alerts, Only On Twitter.com</p>
<p>Found at <a href="http://tweetbeep.com/">http://tweetbeep.com/</a> I use Tweet Beeps the same way<br />
that I use Google Alerts. Any time that my target phrases are<br />
found in ANY Twitter posts, I get a notification.  </p>
<p>That will point out to you discussions that you may want to join<br />
for various reasons, to include &#8220;damage control,&#8221; thanking them<br />
for a nice compliment, to answer questions about your product,<br />
etc.</p>
<p>One creative way to use Tweet Beeps would be to ask those<br />
&#8220;tweeting&#8221;  positive things about your product for testimonials,<br />
or to become your affiliates.</p>
<p>4) <a href="http://www.internationalassociationofjointventurebrokers.org">International Association Of Joint Venture Brokers</a></p>
<p>Found at <a href="http://IAJVB.ORG">http://IAJVB.ORG</a>, The International Association of<br />
Joint Venture Brokers is a collection of <a href="http://www.internationalassociationofjointventurebrokers.org">joint venture brokers</a>,<br />
super affiliates,  product owners, publishers, and webmasters<br />
who use the site to keep track of product launches.</p>
<p>The site is a database of upcoming and ongoing product launches,<br />
live events, tele-events, and even free giveaways.  </p>
<p>Members of the site enter their events into the database as an<br />
easy way to  recruit new affiliates AND to let other members know<br />
that they are &#8220;claiming&#8221; a given launch date.</p>
<p>Savvy affiliates search through the database looking for product<br />
launches in  their niche.  They understand that when you know<br />
about an upcoming launch a  month or more in advance, you can do<br />
things to gain a tremendous advantage in  the search engines before<br />
most other affiliates EVER hear rumors of the launch.</p>
<p>During many product launches, your potential customers often go<br />
to the search  engines to see what reviewers have to say about a<br />
given product.</p>
<p>Affiliates  who knew about, and obtained a review copy of a product<br />
a month in advance,  will have their reviews listed at the top of<br />
the search engines, getting sales  from people who are not even on<br />
their lists&#8230; or have ever previously visited their websites.</p>
<p>Members pull up the listings of other launches planned in their<br />
niche and use  that information to plan when they will do their own<br />
launch.  This keeps them  from going &#8220;head-to-head&#8221; with big<br />
launches that would otherwise drown out their own.  </p>
<p>This also shows them launches that they could perhaps piggyback on.</p>
<p>They can  often get mention of their product INCLUDED in an upcoming<br />
product, or they can plan on releasing their product just as the<br />
commotion from a big  launch is dying down.</p>
<p>Perhaps your product does the same thing as product with a huge<br />
launch planned,  but your product is cheaper. You could time your<br />
launch to catch potential customers who have a heightened awareness<br />
of the problem that your product solves, but who couldn&#8217;t afford<br />
the other product.  You can sell to a lot of customers who actually<br />
feel POWERFUL resentful towards the product that they wanted but<br />
couldn&#8217;t afford.</p>
<p>As you can see good intelligence is extremely valuable. You<br />
absolutely must  know what is going on in your niche. Fortunately,<br />
with the above four tools, it&#8217;s  very easy.</p>

<p>As I travel from seminar to seminar, and meet people new<br />
to internet marketing, I witness a lot of people quickly<br />
discovering the power of setting up joint ventures.  </p>
<p>Many of these people understand that if they could get large<br />
list owners (and people with busy websites) to recommend<br />
their products, they could make a lot of sales really fast.</p>
<p>They understand that one big joint venture partner can make<br />
or break a product launch.</p>
<p>They understand that one successful product launch can propel<br />
them to an incredible level of success.</p>
<p>So the light bulb comes on, and the marketers start trying<br />
to figure out how to set up join ventures. They start<br />
tracking down prospects left and right, and frantically<br />
trying to set up those lucrative joint ventures. </p>
<p>However, most of the newer internet marketers completely<br />
miss the most important part.  They neglect to consider<br />
what the wants and needs of their potential joint venture<br />
partners are.</p>
<p>They &#8220;know&#8221; that they have a great product (or a great<br />
product idea) and they believe that a lot of people will<br />
want and benefit from it.</p>
<p>They also believe that all of the potential joint venture<br />

being approached by dozens of others seeking the same<br />

<p>4) These potential joint venture partners, if they are in<br />
the same niche, may already have a product that competes<br />
directly with yours.</p>
<p>Identifying these all-to-common mistakes, you can now avoid<br />
making them, and in the process dramatically increase your<br />
chances of getting a &#8220;YES&#8221; to your joint venture proposal.</p>
<p>Just having that knowledge gives you a huge potential<br />
advantage over the hordes of others seeking joint ventures<br />
with the same potential joint venture partners.  </p>
<p>However, having that knowledge is not enough &#8211; you need to<br />
actually use it. </p>
<p>Setting up lucrative joint ventures is not really an<br />
insurmountable challenge.  It just involves framing your<br />
offer in terms of how it will benefit your potential joint<br />

promoting your products rather than focusing on my own?&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Yesterday, I attended the first day of Armand Morin&#8217;s<br />
Big Seminar, in Atlanta, Georgia.</p>
<p>I had a blast, learned a lot, and actually had a hard<br />
time forcing myself to go to bed in the middle  of the<br />
night.</p>
<p>The late-night conversation with friends (old and new)<br />
was that  good. It also confirmed to me that I am on the<br />
right path with my online business.</p>
<p>It should be obvious to you that, when you start an<br />
online businesses, there are probably thousands of<br />
products that you &#8220;could&#8221; sell. The first question you<br />
have to answer for yourself is who is your market, and<br />
how are you going to serve them.</p>
<p>Far to many people ask the wrong question there, and<br />
so they end up TRYING to sell the wrong products. I<br />
did say TRYING because they also end up making no sales.</p>
<p>My friend Marlon Sanders pointed out the answer to that<br />
question the first time that I saw him on stage, back<br />
in 2003. He said, &#8220;Whatever they&#8217;re buying, I&#8217;m selling!&#8221;</p>
<p>Marlon also said &#8220;Dead Ducks Don&#8217;t Quack&#8221; meaning, &#8220;stop<br />
trying to sell people things that they don&#8217;t want!&#8221;</p>
<p>Yes, five years ago Marlon&#8217;s answers to </p>
<p>&#8220;What do you sell?</p>
<p>and </p>
<p>&#8220;Who do you sell it to?&#8221; </p>
<p>still ring loud and clear.</p>
<p>What struck me last night is how disillusioned the people<br />
were who hadn&#8217;t answered the very basic question of who<br />
they were serving and what did those people really want.</p>
<p>Without answering that question, you are doomed to waste<br />
a lot of time jumping from product to product, and trying<br />
to convince people that they want something that those<br />
people are already convinced that they DON&#8217;T want.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t think that you want to fall into that trap.</p>
<p>You see it every day online. </p>
<p>That&#8217;s why you see some people pitching a new product<br />
practically every time that you  hear from them.  They&#8217;re<br />
searching for something that sells, and they haven&#8217;t quiet<br />
found it <img src='http://williecrawford.com/blog2/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>That&#8217;s why the conversation last night soooo convinced me<br />
that I&#8217;m on the right path. </p>
<p>You see, on Monday, October 6th, at 8-10pm EST, I&#8217;m teaching<br />
a teleclass on just that topic. It&#8217;s the first in a 6-week<br />
teleclass series on how to launch or relaunch your own<br />
products via joint ventures. </p>
<p>I KNOW that you have to do your research and VERY clearly<br />
identify what it is that your market is SCREAMING at you&#8230;<br />
TELLING you that they want, and will happily pay for. My<br />
entire first 2-hour session will focus on that and how you<br />
actually do that research.</p>
<p>You don’t really have a lot of people teach this because not<br />
many people know how to do it properly.   They can’t teach<br />
you something that… deep down inside… they have to admit<br />
to themselves that they don’t know how to do.</p>
<p>It is the most important part of the puzzle though.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s how you set up an online business with long-term<br />
viability.</p>
<p>The MAORITY of the internet marketers that I know, including<br />
many of the &#8220;gurus&#8221; never really answered that “first” question.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s why so many struggle. </p>
<p>Last night it became clear to me that if I help just a few<br />
people to start off with the RIGHT first step, and therefore<br />
avoid years of needless anguish, I will have done a very good<br />
thing for the world.  I&#8217;ll be able to sit in my beach chair,<br />
gazing at  the beautiful Gulf of Mexico, near my house, and<br />
know that I&#8217;ve actually helped people.</p>
<p>To me that&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about. It&#8217;s about providing a<br />
service that  people actually need and want!</p>
<p>I hope that you&#8217;ll join my teleclass on Monday. The other<br />
5 weekly sessions will cover the things that you typically<br />
think of when you think of setting up joint ventures (such<br />
as how to find lots of willing joint venture partners). </p>
<p>None of the other efforts really matter though if you don&#8217;t<br />
have a product that the market actually wants and is willing to<br />
pay for!</p>
