Getting good grades, I was nudged towards college, where by
some miracle, I thrived, and then went into the military.
A 20-year military career was followed by starting my own
internet-based business, where I was fairly successful.

Yet, throughout all of those years, I don’t think that I can
honestly say that I was every really “happy,” felt comfortable
around most people, or felt like I was doing something really
meaningful.

I always felt “agitated” and unsure that I was doing what I
was meant to be doing.

It felt like I had missed that day at school when the
instructions for fitting in, and being supremely happy were
passed out.

Sure, I learned over the years from many great teacher, and I
practically memorized dozens of great books by deep thinkers.

I had been taught that the real secret to success was getting
out of your own way and letting it happen. Most of us, when on
the cusp of major success, do something to sabotage it… for
some strange reason.

I had been taught that you attract good things into your life,
by properly aligning with the flow… whatever that was suppose
to mean.

After 52 trips around the sun, I had sort of given in to the
idea that I wasn’t meant to have those things like real happiness,
deep meaningful success, life without money worries, or doing
something that gave me any real satisfaction.

Then one day, I tuned in to a free webinar offered by Brian

Diary – $100k In January 2012 – January 22nd, 2012

Welcome to Day 20… the day that I arrived home and got to
play with my impatient new grandchild for the first time
(she was born six weeks early)

This issue is heavily-influenced by feedback that I’m
getting from you guys… especially your wanting to
see more RESULTS!

Up to this point, most of my efforts have been laying the
groundwork for those results… for reasons that I’ll explain
today!

On the airplane on the way home, I actually flowed
out 23 articles in notepad on my iPhone. My wife
would occasionally glance over at my phone, notice the
smile on my face, and ask what I was doing.

After being home for about two hours, and playing
with the baby most of that time, I felt the time
pressures, and started turning those notes into articles.

Pretend Internet Marketing Experts, Dreamers, And Doers

In internet marketing (the niche that I know best)
as well as many other online niches, it’s often
difficult to tell who the genuine experts are.

That’s important because it makes it difficult to know
who to take advice from.

The danger is that you will spend months, or even years,
following the advice of someone who either sells you
his theory, or who just makes up something that sounds
plausible, and doesn’t even care if it’s accurate… as
long as it sells.

Yes, there ARE people who will sell you anything and
don’t care if it works, but I very strongly believe
that they are a tiny minority.

There are also those who believe that you will not
buy their products unless they “fake it until you
make it.” Many of these people may actually have
really good intentions, but since they believe that
they have to pretend to be something that they are
not, they can be a real threat to your success.

The fake it till you make it types often blur the
lines as to what they are actually qualified to teach
you. Their perceived dilemma is that they feel that
they HAVE TO fake it.

Several years ago, in an interview, I asked my friend
and mentor, Rich Schefren, how one overcomes this.
Rich explained that it’s as simple as being your authentic
self. Identify what you ARE qualified to teach, identify
the audience that does want to learn that, and sell to
them.

Rich’s advice really boiled down to merely acknowledging
that your potential audience members are at all different
levels along the learning curve, and you just need to focus
on the ones who need the level of guidance that you are
genuinely qualified to deliver.

The next pretend expert that you need to be aware of
is “the dreamer” who understand on a certain level but
have never DONE anything and therefore isn’t 100%
certain that what they offer to teach you WORKS. They’ve
STUDIED a lot, but they haven’t physically verified
what they believe to be true.

These are you armchair quarterbacks, your armchair
copywriters, and your armchair marketing experts.

I honestly think that many of the armchair experts
are most dangerous to themselves. I’ve encountered
dozens of them over the years who had studied the same
materials that I had, and knew it well enough that they
frequently quoted the same people that I did… and
often even finished my sentences when I tried explaining
something to them.

I say that they were a danger to themselves, because
they never moved beyond the knowing stage into the
implementation stage, so they could never earn a living
even though they understood how! I honestly believe that
they were afraid to actually do something, or they were
dabbling in too many different things to take any one
thing through to completion.

Either way, these are the experts who, based upon being
old-timers who have put in the time learning, should be
very successful. Yet, they are STUCK at just knowing and
won’t acknowledge that they MUST move beyond that.

Then you have the newbie who listens, learns and applies.
Some of them move up the ladder very rapidly, and are at
the top of the “expert ladder” in 1/10th of the time that
others take, and they ARE genuine experts.

Two quick examples of these “doers” are Russell Brunson
and Ryan Deiss.

I remember when Russell was a college student, wrestling,
and then starting to raise a family. He was on the
Warrior Forum, aggressively learning, testing, and DOING.
Not that much later, I could see that Russell had hit
six-figures, and then seven-figures.

I first notice Ryan Deiss in December 2002, when he was
an attendee at the very first seminar that ever attended
(and spoke at). I don’t believe that he was even 20 years
old yet, and he sat there taking and organizing copious
notes. He asked deep, relevant questions.

Ryan has now probably surpassed most of my fellow
speakers who graced the stage during that era. Ryan now
has other very successful guru’s working for his
companies

I’m compelled to warn my readers to be aware of the pretend
experts and dreamers, but I’m equally as compelled to point
out what sets the doers apart!

The “snakes in the grass” will always exist, and part of the
reason that they will even thrive is because of customer
greed. Greed causes people to make very poor choices.

FEAR also causes people to make poor decisions, and I
believe that is what keeps more people who have the
knowledge from becoming doers!

To become one of the successful doers, you have to actually,
REALLY believe that it is possible. Then you have to
believe that it is possible for you.

For me personally, I grew to believe that it was possible,
after spending a lot of time hanging around with, and even
masterminding with, others who actually walked-the-walk.

I grew to believe that it was possible for me after
observing that many of the ULTRA successful people that I
hung around were really quite ordinary in most respects.
I would even dare say that some were of below average
intelligence… and I even know that they would say this
about themselves.

The differences are:

1) You have to give yourself permission to actually become
successful.

2) You need to work on your mindset, because “going big” is
largely mental. Once you have the correct mindset, then it
JUST HAPPENS.

I know this to be true because that has been my experience.
I grew up on government subsistence (welfare) surrounded by
poverty and no real mega-successful role models. I did have
several teachers who lovingly challenged and inspired me.

I had my big breakthrough after hanging around the ultra
successful, and being bathed in their mindset.

They also taught me that the rich and ultra-successful were
not necessarily “evil”

That “flow” started me and many of my friends along a path
that made success destined to happen. It also programmed us
to always be successful even if we occasionally suffer
setbacks… because we now understand the path and have that
essential mindset.

The final ingredient for me was being actually mentored by
an individual who showed me how I was really the ONLY
person who could hold me back, and then how to get out of my
way and allow unimagined success to flow into my life.

That mentor’s name is Brian Ridgway, and he branded his

Notice that that article is fairly emotionally charged. It’s
very difficult for a person to read the article and not feel
motivated to take some action, even if it’s to fire off an
email to me telling me that they disagree.

I could sense shortly after publishing the article that it
did indeed “piss off” many readers. It had that effect
because it no longer allowed them to blame others for the
results that they’ve gotten in life thus far. Most of the
world tells you that it’s not your fault because they know
that’s what you want to hear. I was deliberately using a
little “tough love!”

People respond to this type of article, they comment on it,
and they share it with others, so this is the type of article
that I will be publishing a LOT of over the next 10 days or
so.

That article is engineered to generate an emotional
under-current that people HAVE to respond to!

I published that article to a tiny list of about 7000 general
internet marketers whom I also felt would “get” that “mindset”
is a major part of the game. It’s what allows you to actually
follow-through with doing the other things that you need to
do in order to have extra-ordinary success.

Developing that mindset and following through DOES often
mean doing things that you are slightly uncomfortable with.
I shared with you earlier that even I have to do that. I
also shared with you my zip lining experience, where I
actually FORCED myself to REPEATELY step off the edge of cliffs,
attached to tiny cables that I didn’t really have that
much faith in. My point was NOT that I was on an exotic
Caribbean cruise, but that I purposely FORCED myself to do
something that I didn’t really want to do, but knew that it
would force me to grow in the direction that I wanted to
move.

In case you missed it, the tactic that I used to keep me
from backing out was to publicly state on my Facebook profile
(and to my wife) that I was going to do something that I
feared. I turned them all into powerful accountability
partners… and it worked!

That article is designed to make people really examine their
online marketing (somewhat bridging the gap between internet
marketing and personal development).

I AM at a tremendous disadvantage in the Personal Development
Niche, and since I’m not known there, needed to create a logical
bridge that people might be willing to step across.

When I’m reading an article, the first question that I
personally ask myself is “What makes this person qualified
to write this article?” I want to know “What makes them an
expert!” If we fail to answer that question in our own
articles, we lose the reader and your article will be largely
a waste of time.

My over-arching goal is… hopefully to get lots of people
re-posting the article, and it’s primary purpose is of course
to get people to check out the Level 5 Mentoring program… where
I’ll earn a commission when people actually benefit from the
free webinar, and because they do benefit, they want the paid
product that goes deeper.

Since the article covers an emotionally charged topic, and I
used the title as my email subject line, I do expect a very
high number of readers.

I will also submit that article to EzineArticles.com and to
IdeaMarketers.com, and will also bookmark it using the tools
that I mentioned to you yesterday.

I’ll share it in the other places already mentioned.

I can see this ONE article generating thousands of visitors
WHEN it goes viral, or gets a lot of commentary from the
right people.

I would also like to explain at this point WHY I
chose personal development or self-help as a niche
to focus on.

First of all, I’m not known AT ALL in the personal
development niche, so I feel that this is a great
test of my methods. I AM starting at the SAME point
that a newbie would be starting at… one of getting
people who don’t know me as an expert in that space,
to listen to me.

Given that people buy from people that they know,
like and trust, that means that I have to figure
out how to get potential customers in that niche to
know, like, and trust me.

Anyone in this situation has two choices… you
can either develop the know-like-and-trust factor,
or you can borrow it.

I chose to do both!

First, I chose to develop it by pushing out a TON
of content that rapidly proves my actual expertise
in this area. Given that I am a newbie in the niche,
that proof has to show that I not only understand
the theory, but that I actually LIVE the principles.

PROVING that I understand and have actually harnessed
the principles is why my writing focuses so much on
my lifestyle. That proves that I live what I’m
teaching day-to-day and as a result, I gain the
benefit… implying if you copy my application of the
principles exactly, then you’ll get the same results.

My readers need to see that I get above-average results
from my applying certain principles. I need to
unequivocally PROVE that.

Given that most authors, in most niches online, generate
little more than a lot of theory, IF I show practical
examples of the application of what I cover, then I can
quickly go from an unknown in the niche to a
much-respected authority

That’s what you need to do too.

YOU, as a subscriber, even have to see my doing that or
you quickly tune out, and don’t stick around long enough
to see how massively effective what I’m doing really
can be.

The second way to get that know-like-and-trust factor,
is to borrow it. That’s where solo ads come in. In placing
solo ads, I’m approaching list owners who already have that
relationship with their list and asking them for a direct or
indirect endorsement.

I also shared with you in an earlier lesson that I’m
actually reaching out to a few friends and asking them
to share my content-rich Facebook posts and events with
their followers.

I’m merely sending them private messages, asking them to
please share a post or Event.

I’m only asking them to do that with content that I feel
that their “Friends” will enjoy or appreciate.

I submit that we ALL have a few close friends that we
can ask a favor of, but also admit that asking favors
of even close friends can feel uncomfortable.

If you want extra-ordinary results you DO have to force
yourself to do things that people willing to live with
ordinary results simply won’t do. I can do that because
I honesty feel that my content is changing lives.

So, I am borrowing credibility. You need to do the
same thing!

You do have friends. They ARE willing to give you a
break especially IF they expect you at some point in
the future to reciprocate.

How well is this working for me?

In the Self-Help Giveaway that I’m using as a case-study,
I’ve moved from not even being in the top 20 (based on
over-all referrals), to where I expect to be in the top 5
VERY soon, and then to fight my way into the top three,
where I WILL earn a free solo mailing in my new niche…
with the #1 position offering that solo mailing to 250,000.

You may feel that you DON’T need a “pep talk” but I hope
that you do see that it’s worth the monumental effort, and
that after you make that initial monumental effort, that
the rest can simply fall in place.

I entered a new niche, made a monumental effort doing
things that I feel slightly uncomfortable with, and after
30 days, I should actually have made over $100k, largely
from soft-selling a product in my new niche, and from
leveraging the credentials of others who are long
established in that space.

I am going up against GIANTS in that space, and because
I am willing to do more, I will prevail, but I will be
doing things that you CAN do too.

My focus the rest of the journey is on buying solo ads
(buying endorsements), but even there, I’m largely
spending money earned from other efforts that I shared
with you in previous lessons.

I have arranged 32 solo ads that will start running as
early as today. For each of those ads, I am using a
unique tracking url, so that I know where my results
came from, and I will share that with you (unless I
was specifically prohibited by the ad seller for some
strange reason).

In the last lesson, I showed you how to set-up for this
solo ad barrage with as little as $25… but that… starting
with that little meant that it would take a few days longer.

Now, thanks to your patience as I laid the framework,
you’ll get to watch it all unfold, and even be able to
use my EXACT solo ad sources if you choose to, and if you
act fast. Of course, over 1200 others will be reading
these same notes, so if you are not fast, you may be in
for a bit of a wait.

Moving forward, I’m going to make the lessons less
verbose, since hopefully by this time, you’ve gotten
the mindset part.

I will add that this IS all an inexact science. There is
a lot of testing and tracking involved, and even the top
marketing experts have to admit that the outcomes are not
always exact.

In fact, in a recent discussion, a friend shared with me
a conversation that he had with a guy who has often
billed himself as “the godfather of internet marketing.”
He shared that this guy taught him that email marketing
is hit and miss. It’s a matter of market-to-message-to-
medium match.

Even at “the very top” this guy sends out mailing some
days that produce a mere trickle of orders, and other
days he hits on just the right combination, and hundreds
of orders flood in.

He tries to be scientific about it but has discovered that
if he keeps making little tweaks, and keeps mailing, that
in the long run, he has a lot of home-runs but even more
singles

In that market-to-message match, I believe that the most
critical ingredient is the words that you use to connect
with your audience one-to-one, and that no one has an
advantage over you in that arena, because it’s an actual
bond/connection “felt” between two individuals.

Most of us want to improve our lives, and many of us
know the little things that we could do to incrementally
improve our lives. Yet many of us won’t do those little
things.

When I say little things, I’m talking about:
- Eating healthier
- Getting more exercise
- Watching less television
- Drinking more pure water
- Making more time for family and doing the thing
that we actually enjoy.

Most of us also understand that since most people aren’t
experiencing massive success, that if we want to achieve
massive success, then we must be willing to do things
differently than what most people are willing to do.

Yet most people are unwilling to step outside of their
comfort zones and do things that seem very challenging
or that the average person might view as “unreasonable.”

Most people seem unwilling to attempt things that average
people view as improbable. We look around us, see what is
“the norm” and don’t dare step outside that mold.

The problem is that hundreds of millions of people are
unhappy, and lead unsatisfying, un-fulfilling lives
BECAUSE they have been conditioned to ACCEPT being less
than they could have or be.

The key to accomplishing more is simply giving yourself
permission to try.

The key to accomplishing more is asking yourself if you
really want more from life, and “being adult enough” to
acknowledge that achieving that will require you to step
outside of society’s narrowly defined mold.

Since we spend out entire lives being socialized, and
programmed as to what is “normal” and “acceptable” by
our institutions (educational institutions, family
units, governmental institution, and religious
institutions), it IS difficult for most people to
wake up and break free.

I, personally choose to set very lofty goals, to be
100% happy, and to have more of the good things that
this world has to offer. I choose to live a life of
purpose and passion.

I set “kooky” goals such as to earn $100k in a single
month, doing things that anyone can do, but just won’t
give themselves permission to do.

Being afraid of heights, I force myself to step outside
my comfort zone and go zip lining off Costa Rican
mountain sides.

I do those things to stretch my comfort zone and to
inspire others to break free their of self-imposed
constraints.

Many people look at me (a farm kid from North Carolina,
who grew up on welfare), and wonder what gives me the
audacity to do things such as set 8-figure annual
income goals, and fully expect to achieve them.

They want to live as fully, but feel trapped by
society’s insistence that they be normal.

To them, doing what I do routinely, and seemingly
without struggle, is something that they want to also
do, but they don’t seem to recognize “the secret.”

Allow me to share with you several of my biggest
“non-secrets.”

1) I use “peer pressure” to force me to do bigger things
by simply publicly telling others that I am going to
attempt bigger things. Knowing that numerous others
are watching, introduces the real threat of my being
a public failure, and being publicly embarrassed. I
simple turn what hold most people back into a force
that propels me forward.

2) I expect to achieve the impossible. When we expect
things to turn out a certain way, we subconsciously do
things to facilitate those expectations coming to
fruition.

3) I feed my mind “positive” thoughts by surrounding
myself with positive uplifting people. I fill my world
with positive materials and avoid things that exude
negative energy such as most network television.

4) I acknowledge that being timid is actually irrational.
You have to be willing to set bold, challenging goals in
order to get big, extra-ordinary results.

The thing is that, once you start accomplishing major
goals, and confirm how easy this actually is, you
form the habit on setting more similarly bold goals.
You evolve into a person who refuses to live in misery
or mediocrity.

5) I acknowledge that nothing happens without me being
willing to take action, and also being willing to change.

Those are also the keys to you shaking off the
mostly-self-imposed constraints in your life, and to
living a life that is also filled with happiness and a
real sense of purpose.

If you read back through this article, you’ll see the
obvious truth in what I’ve just shared.

Then the only question becomes, are you willing to
take action and make those necessary changes. You can
start small, but start you MUST!

not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let
our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence
automatically liberates others.”

So, I am moving forward and in doing so “having to look
back to connect the dots.”

This picture, while the caption may shock some,
struck me as appropriate, since it shows where
hundreds of millions seem to be.

Many of us have found ourselves in a fairly
uncomfortable situation, and have no idea how
we really got there, but when we slow down and
survey things, it’s not as bad as it first seems.

This current economy does seem like a very
STRANGE and intimidating creature to many of
us. Yet, when you really look at it, it’s not
impossible to comprehend.

In this image, the pool may feel frightening,
but it’s filled with “safety nets” including
life vests and well-qualified trainers. All
we would need to do if we were in that situation
is trust our trainer, and show just a tiny bit
of WILLINGNESS to move forward.

You do need to identify where you currently are
since that’s the only real way to map out how
to get to where you want to be. You begin
charting a course on a map, from the point that
you are currently at.

This also demands rigorous honesty… with
yourself. Deceiving others in generally bad,
but deceiving yourself is DEADLY.

So, begin with identifying where you are, but
don’t you dare B.S. yourself. If you do, you’re
not fooling anyone, you’re just keeping yourself
STUCK… and you can never move forward.

2) Take total responsibility.

I am a firm believer that “there are no
mistakes in God’s universe.” So, I believe
that things are just the way that they are
suppose to be, even if we don’t understand
them.

Since I said “God’s universe,” I should go on
to say “a God of my understanding.” You see,
many people struggle with life because we fear
that we are doing it wrong, and that the divine
ONE is constantly testing us.

Years ago, I sat in a roomful of peers and had
a counselor say something that totally SHOCKED
me. She said, “If your God isn’t working for
you, you need to fire him, and get one that does?”
So, I did. I chose to see God as being similar
to a loving father who only wants the best for
his children. From that point onward, I had no
trouble accepting that things really ARE exactly
the way that they are suppose to be at this very
moment.

That belief also means that if one of your struggles
is just feeling a sense of purpose, and if you
feel unable to connect with a higher power defined
for you by someone else, then you need to simply
stop struggling, and listen to the voice of God
that is speaking DIRECTLY to you.

I call that voice INTUITON!

You don’t need to struggle with anyone else’s
beliefs… and you also don’t need to discard
your existing beliefs… you just need to understand
that you ARE “ok!”

The second belief that I also accepted
during that stage of my life, is that “No matter
what situation I find myself in, I played some
part in getting there!”

That’s the “taking total responsibility.” Where you
find yourself today, is in some way the consequences
of past decisions that you made (or didn’t make),
and past actions that you took.

Grow up, stop blaming others, acknowledge that
YOU got yourself in “this situation” and ask, “Now
what are we going to do about it?”

I said “we” rather than “I” because others are
willing to help you, if you will only allow them. We
humans like helping each other

3) Identify where you want to go and WHY?

If you find yourself with very little money, then
money may seem like a worthy goal. When you are
struggling just to pay the bills it IS hard to
focus on anything else.

However, just focusing on the money won’t sustain
you for long. Instead, you need to focus on what
you can do with the money. How will it change your
life and that of your loved ones? How will it
impact things that you genuinely care about?

How will it allow you to make a difference?

4) Identify how you are going to get there.

The easiest path that I’ve seen is to find
someone who has already done what you want to
do and copy what they did. You can try doing
that as an outside observer, but it’s more
certain if you break into their “Winners Circle”
and let them actually teach you every minute
detail.

Over the years, I’ve watched dozens of people
who were many times more intelligent than I
am… look at what another very successful person
was doing, and then set out to copy what they were
doing, but chose to do it in a different way.

The VAST majority of them failed.

I, looked out and identified apparently successful
people who were doing what I thought that I wanted
to do.

I got closer to some of those people and discovered
that many were fakes, or that many were living off
past successes and that if I copied what they did
back then, it would no longer work for me. Those
who weren’t fakes but were teaching things that use
to work, were making their money NOT from doing,
but from teaching what they did back then.

I got closer to other successful people, and once I
identified the ones who actually walked the walk,
and who shared similar value to me, I bonded with
them.

I got them to welcome me into their world by showing
them that I could benefit them.

I didn’t try to guilt them into “giving me a break”
as thousands of others try to do incessantly.

Instead, I asked, “What do I have of value that I
could offer them, that would make them want to
associate with me, and help me?”

The answer differed for each person that I approached,
but for all of them it really turned out to be LOVE.
I discovered that people can sense when you honestly
care about them, and don’t just want to use them. When
you really care about, and want to benefit another
human being, they WILL sense it, and they CANNOT
long resist reciprocating.

That’s that old Law of Reciprocity that operates in
every culture on the face of the planet that
anthropologist have studied… up until this point

So, there you have it… How to actually make 2012
“your year.” How to make 2012 successful beyond your
wildest dreams!

The strange thing is that… most people who will read
this will see the undeniable truth in it, and will
chose to ignore it.

A few others will share this with others (by pointing
out my blog post, or sharing it on Facebook), and by
doing so, pay it forward. For doing that, allow me
to thank you in advance.

A rare few, who are actually very serious, will analyze
this many times, and then ACT upon it. They will “get”
what Einstein meant when he said that “nothing happens
until something moves!”
