My New Top 10 Free Website Traffic Generation Methods - Part 1

In 2008, I wrote an ebook that revealed my most effective
methods of generating free website traffic. As online
conditions and technologies change, I feel it’s now time
to update that ebook.

However, instead of revealing my new top 10 free website
traffic generation methods in ebook format, I’m going to do
it in a 10-part article series.

While I do list these methods in order of my preference,
it’s not necessarily by which ones produce the most traffic.
Instead, I list them also considering which  produce the
highest quality traffic, and therefore adds the most to my
bottom-line.

Let’s get started…

My number one favorite method of generating free website
traffic is via an affiliate program.  I like releasing
simple, inexpensive products that pay as much as 100%
commission on the front-end.  Properly done, this can create
thousands of affiliates all working frantically to send you
highly-qualified BUYING traffic.

They find and send you traffic that you wouldn’t otherwise
have, and you reward them for doing so.

There are a number of keys to making this most effective,
and I see many people who attempt this tactic missing
some of the most important elements.  Those keys are:

1) You want to make managing the whole system as easy
as possible.  If your system is too burdensome, you won’t
use it for very long.  I use the Rapid Action Profits
system, developed by my friend Sid Hale, to manage this
affiliate program. I use it because once I set up a site,
RAP makes management practically hands-free.  The script
can be configured to pay any percentage commission that you
desire on a front-end and/or back-end product.

The beauty of the system is that when a sale is made,
the affiliate is paid instantly directly to their Paypal
account, and the customer is redirected to a download
page.  At that point, my affiliate has sent me that
prized traffic, but as importantly, is also building me
a mailing list.

2) You need to also have a good back-end product in-place.
I typically have a second product that I offer
immediately after that first sale. You can offer
affiliates any percentage commission on this sale,
and I often don’t offer any since I’ve given them all
of the money from the front-end sale.

The key though, is that if you do offer a back-end
product (or one-time-offer) you will often get a major
percentage of customer take it.  So, if you don’t have
that offer in place, you’re leaving behind much of
your profits.

3) You need to have follow-up in place.  It does little
good to build that list if you don’t later follow-up
with them.  Another reason that I like using Rapid
Action Profits is that it builds a database right within
the software.

Since some web hosting companies limit the number of
emails that you can send from their servers (at one time),
RAP also offers the capability for automatically
building your list on a third-party system (such as
Aweber.com or ProfitAutomation.com).

4) Here’s where a lot of people using this traffic
generation method cut corners, and fail…

You need to give affiliates lots of great tools so that
it’s really, REALLY easy for them to register as
affiliates and then promote like crazy.

Many of your affiliates won’t feel comfortable creating
tools on their own. So, if you don’t give them the
tools, they’ll end up doing nothing.  Tools should
include:
- Banners in a variety of sizes
- Solo emails
- Blog posts
- Tweets
- Classified ads (suitable for Google AdWords)

The tools should have the affiliates’ links automatically
inserted in the proper places - something RAP handles
beautifully.  If you force your affiliates to have to
track down links, and then manually edit the tools you
offer, many won’t bother.

5) Here’s how you make your traffic generator go viral…

Invite your customers to become affiliates after they
purchase.  I’ve seen many merchants put links to their
affiliate program right on the sales page. I don’t like
this technique since I feel that it can distract customers
that your affiliates worked hard to send you. So, I
don’t feel that it’s fair.

Instead, I put links to sign-up for the affiliate
program on my product download pages, AND often in the
products themselves.  Simply explain to customers that
they can register, promote the product, and earn instant
commissions.  This is very effective, especially when
you have all of those great affiliate tools in place.

It’s also very effective because the INSTANT commissions
helps those who need the cash now!

Ok, I’ve just shared with you my very favorite method
for generating free website traffic.  I basically get
others to send me the traffic, and then I have tools
in place to leverage that traffic.

The Absolute Truth About Affiliate Marketing

When I listened to Willie’s call on How to Sell More
Big Ticket Products, I have to admit I was a little
skeptical.

I mean, Willie’s my best friend and I know first hand
that he sells more high dollar products than most people
sell $27 ebooks - including me!

I was there when he sold over 30 of Jeff Walker’s Product
Launch formula 2 packages, and I was there when he sold
around $40k worth of John Reese’s Traffic Secrets - over
10K of that from writing one article!

I was there when he sold around 30 copies of Butterfly
Marketing - some at $997 and some at $1497, so I know
this stuff works, but the problem is, it just hasn’t
been working for me.

Because of all this, I was shocked and amazed to hear

groundwork.

With Willie being my friend and all, yes, I’m biased, but
the truth is, I was blown away with the call in spite of this.

I figured I knew all Willie’s secret tactics, but it turns
out he’s been holding out on me all this time!

I heard stuff that he’s never even told me before!

A Rare Insider Interview With Peter Drew, Creator Of The Brute Force SEO Software

I interviewed Peter Drew, creator the Brute Force
SEO software back in December, 2009.

I had trouble hearing/understanding Peter during the
interview and understand that he had trouble
hearing/understanding me too.  So I didn’t release
this audio at first, but after doing  some heavy editing,

Dominating Google And Taking No Prisoners In The Search Engine Wars!

Getting more traffic, more subscribers, and more sales
is all about getting more eyeballs on your pages when
you condense it down to the bottom line.

If you don’t want to pay for that traffic, by using the
somewhat risky pay-per-clicks, then you’re left with
generating free “organic” traffic.

The bottom line there is getting as many other high-traffic
sites as possible pointing to you, and telling the world that
you are a credible source of information on a specific topic.

That’s all about getting backlinks and I DO have a system that
allows me to totally DOMINATE in that arena… and you can try
it out without spending a single penny.

The second  prong of my attack is that I seek to gain “shelf
space.”

Go to any American grocery store, and Coke and Pepsi dominate
the shelves in the solf-drink department. They simply have
dozens of choices that you can choose from (low calorie,
caffeine free, cherry flavored, classic formula, etc.) .

The net result is that few other soft drink manufacturers can
gain a foothold in the major supermarkets, because they’ve
allocated all of their space (at eye-level) to Coke and Pepsi.

How do you apply this to internet marketing?

You put up numerous competing sites in your niche to lock in
more positions on the front page of Google.  If all of your
sites are eventually leading to the same destination, you
don’t really care which one of them initially draws customers
into the funnel.

That’s the entire thought process behind my approach to
dominating many niches that I and my clients are in. We simply
crowd the competitors off the shelf… relegate them to places
few shoppers ever look :-)

We put up a dozen, keyword-optimized, competing sites in order
to accomplish that.

Losing The Excuses - Driving Traffic And Building A List With Your Own Affiliate Program

At the recent Niche Affiliate Marketing System (NAMS) Workshop,
I gave two presentation… one on list-building to the beginners
group, and one of traffic generation to the intermediate group.

I also helped with FOUR workshops :-)

NAMS is not a pitchfest… instructors go very in-depth
in their presentations, and then in follow-on hands-on
workshops, have attendees actually DO what they just
taught… with assistants walking around the room helping
anyone who gets “stuck.”  It’s this level of training
that you’ll get  in the recordings, so again, they are
VERY worth getting.

A common thread in both of the presentations that I gave,
plus in many of the workshops that I helped teach, was
that you really do need your own affiliate program

I preach that having your own affiliate program allows
you to get OTHERS to send you website traffic and new
list members who are PROVEN BUYERS.

The affiliates will do all of the heavy lifting if you
just give them a great product and the right tools.

Since with an affiliate program, you only pay for
performance, it really costs you nothing.  I’m
presuming that your affiliates are reaching customers
that you wouldn’t be reaching. In many of my markets,
I assume that I’m not reaching even 1/10th of my potential
customers.

I NEED affiliates to introduce me to their contacts.

I need affiliates to make recommendations for my products
since they are already know and trusted by their list
members and followers. This allows you to borrow or leverage
someone else’s credibility.

Setting up an affiliate program can be really, really
simple.  I explain a lot of what I do in this PowerPoint

As I said, you need to give your affiliates a great product
and the right tools.   I cover both in my slides that I
offered above.

The two easiest ways to create a product quickly is to
record an interview with an expert, or to find a good
private label rights product and rework it.  Let’s talk
about how I do both.

For the record product with the expert, I simply ask
someone who knows a LOT about a topic that my
audience is interested in, if I can interview them.
MOST say yes… they love talking about their area of
expertise, and appreciate the value of the free publicity
for them and their products.

I use Audio Acrobat to record our call right over the
phone. Audio Acrobat cost $20 per month, and you can
make an unlimited number of recorded calls and have so
many benefits that you simply need to check out the site

I’ve used Audio Acrobat for over 4 years, which tells you
how satisfied I am with them :-)

Within minutes of hanging up from the phone interview, I
can download the MP3 recording. I use Audacity or Sound
Forge to clean up the audio if necessary… removing
coughs, excessive pauses, small talk, etc.

Then I pass the audio to my transcriptionist to have
them type it our so that I can turn it into a PDF
complete with live hyperlinks.

I want the live hyperlinks because that is where I often
build in backend profits. If the interviewee has an
affiliate program, I often ask if I can use an affiliate
link when discussing their products as a solution to
some problem.

As soon you get your audio and transcript ready, you
have a product ready to roll. You could even offer just
the MP3, or offer the transcript as an upsell.

I typically set these products up on a site designed
just for the ONE product.  I power my affiliate program
with my friend and neighbor, Sid Hale’s Rapid Action
Profits script.

The reason that I use Rapid Action Profits is that it
allows me to pay affiliates INSTANTLY… with customers
making payments directly to affiliates Paypal accounts
before Paypal redirects the customer to my download
page.

Affiliate who need cash NOW rather than having to wait
a month or more to get paid really appreciate products
the instant commission. I also often pay 100% commission
on the front end product, making the product even more
attractive to affiliates!

The second way to come up with a product FAST is to
start with private label rights.  I think of private
label rights as a product where someone else has done
the research and created “the first draft.”

With PLR I recommend that you:
- Revise it, making sure it’s accurate, in your own
voice, and even has links to additional resources that
you recommend (your affiliate links).
- Give it a new title
- Have new graphics created
- Revise any provide website to make it more powerful
and of course to reflect the new product name.

If you do a good job with PLR, the original creator of
the product should not even recognize it… that’s when
you know that you have something that delivers a lot
of value, yet is unique in the market place.

After you have your product ready to roll, you just
need to get the word out.  You can do that in numerous
way that I’ll cover in a future post… one I’ll write
shortly… after I’ve taken care of a few other things :-)

Bookmark the site and drop by often.

I will recommend that you list your new affiliate product
in the database at http://TIMIC.ORG That requires a Gold
or higher membership.

You can also post that you are looking for affiliates/
JV partners on many popular forums.

A way to grow your affiliate program, and as a result
your subscriber/customer base, and your website traffic
REALLY fast… is to recruit your new customers as
affiliates. Rapid Action Profits makes it really easy
to do this.

Just stick a link to your affiliate program on your
download page. I DON’T like links to the affiliate
program on the sales page as I feel this a disservice to
hard-working affiliates. They send you customers ready
to buy, and instead of encouraging them to buy you
short-sightedly entice them to become affiliates
instead.  I do think that is fair, but many of my peers
will disagree :-)

You can also recruit your customers as affiliates by
adding a page to your product (ebook) inviting the
customer to join. You can do the same thing in a
follow-up autoresponder message

Customers who have already used, and therefore know
and hopefully LIKE your product make some of the best
affiliates anyway.

Losing The Excuses — Why Don’t You Have A List… Again?

I’ve been online since 1996 now, and during MOST of that
time, I’ve been steadily working at growing my database…
my list of subscribers.

Consequently, I have a substantial database that spans
numerous niches and sub-niches.

For practically every product that I sell, ever website
that I build, and every free or MP3 that I give away, I
incorporate list-building into the process somehow. It’s
NOT always with the use of a forced opt-in (a squeeze page).

I sometimes give a direct download link and then in the
product or on the download page, ask them to join my list.
In those instances, I’m delivering value and proving that
it’s worth being on my list BEFORE asking them to join it.

I was taught, very early in my online career, that you
should have an opt-in form on practically every page of
your website. So, I do that, except on pages where the
opt-in form would pull webpage visitors away from another
objective that the page is set up to accomplish.

You should be doing the same.

I publish regular newsletters, or have autoresponder
sequences set up in many niches. It’s pointless to build
a list (or database) if you are not going to communicate
with them regularly. It’s just wasting disk space and
resources.

If you contact your list infrequently, they forget about
you, and file spam complaints on those rare occasions
when you DO email them… since they often honestly don’t
remember how they got on your list.

I hear too many people  who have been online a year or
more, in comparing themselves to me, say that my big
advantage is that I have a list.  My response to that is
“So when are you going to start building yours?”

Some people aren’t as prolific or as comfortable writing
as I am.  My answer is that as you do it more, you grow
into feeling comfortable with it.  I still make many
mistakes, but as long as my message is reaching (and
benefiting) my intended audience that’s all that REALLY
matters.

Set them up to go our once every two weeks. That covers
you for a year in delivering solid content to your
subscribers.

On the weeks in-between issues, send out a solo mailing
promoting a product that you REALLY, REALLY believe in,
and that you know will REALLY, REALLY help your customers.

You’ll find a database of new product launches (and
relaunches) there.  Take the free silver membership if
you are just an affiliate marketer, and don’t have your
own products that you want to list in the database.

Publishing your ezine can then be as simple as having
an issue pre-scheduled to go out every other week. On
the other weeks, you can send out  one of the
cut-and-paste emails provided by one of the affiliate
programs that you found at: http://IAJVB.ORG

One of my most effective, and simplest list-building
techniques is to offer free MP3’s or PDF’s of
interviews that I’ve record, posting to places like
Twitter (or posting to dozens of sites using Sokule
http://timic.org/Sokule ).

An even better technique for building a list and traffic
is to set up a simple affiliate program selling an
inexpensive product, paying 100% instant commission,
and having OTHERS send you tons of traffic and new
subscribers. That’s how I literally get THOUSANDS of
new subscribers some months :-)
