Over the years, I’ve written more than 1600 of my
own articles. I still write several per week because
it’s something I can do almost anywhere, and each only
takes me a few minutes.
Lately though, I’ve also asked if spending a lot of
time writing is the highest and best use of my time.
Everyday, I’m becoming more of a proponent of outsourcing
practically everything.
In looking at outsourcing article writing, I have to
overcome two objections:
1) I want them in my voice since they represent me.
2) Like many, I feel that others won’t produce the same
quality as I would.
I’ve finally learned to outsource some of my article
writing by addressing both of the above concerns
head-on.
To the first objection, I had to ask, “What is the
purpose in writing and publishing the article. If it’s
primarily for SEO, or to get visibility as an expert on
a given topic, then often what’s most important is
sometimes volume. You sometimes need to produce
enough content to break through the clutter… and if
that’s the case, you don’t really need to do it all
yourself.
To the second objection, the solution is often to
acknowledge that you get what you pay for. If you’re
only willing to pay $1 for an article, then expect $1
quality.
At the same time you may not need a $100 article. I’ve
recently had some very good articles written for well
under $10 each. I used: http://www.contentregion.com/
Sticking with the point of you get what you pay for,
the problem is often that you don’t want to pay a LOT
for an article, yet good writers don’t want to work
for slave wages. The writers at:
http://www.contentregion.com/ offer the best of both
worlds. They research (as necessary) and write fairly
fast, so they can afford to charge less than someone
who took many hours per article.
The final consideration for you is that you usually
want a writer who speakers your native tongue (if
that’s the language that the article will be in).
In fact, you want someone with a deep understanding
of your culture, and ideally your audience/topic.
If you fail to get someone for whom the language
is their native tongue, you can often tell it in the
final product. It will NOT sound like you, and you’ll
often end up rewriting it anyway… thus negating any
time-saving. So, go with a native speaker
In future posts, we’ll look at other things that you
can and should outsource.
