How To Turn Off FaceBook Chat – Step-By-Step

Lots of my  contacts choose to contact me via
notes sent to my FaceBook inbox, despite me
asking them to use email. So, I drop by
regularly to coordinate things.

One of the things that was driving me batty
was the chat messages that were constantly
popping up.

Here’s how I turned chat off in about 2
minutes, without jumping through any hoops…
or installing in special browser plug-ins, etc.

Step 1 -  Scroll to the bottom of your Facebook
profile page

Step 2 – Click on the small person icon in the
Facebook chat tab located in the lower right
corner to open the Facebook chat application window.

Step 3 – Click on the “Options” tab.

Step 4 – Click on “Go Offline.” By clicking “Go
Offline” only a couple of things will change: you
won’t be able to see who is online and they cannot
see that you are online.

You can stay on Facebook  without receiving any
more annoying pop up chat messages. The small
person icon in the lower  right-hand corner will
now read “Offline.”

Step 5 -  Once you have clicked the Offline option,
you remain offline in future Facebook sessions
automatically unless you choose to go back online.

You have now successfully turned off Facebook chat.

Step 6 – To turn Facebook chat back on, just click
on the little chat icon and you will be back “Online”
in chat mode.

“We have the technology”  :-)
