Back in December 2002, I was in a brainstorming
session with John Reese and Ramon Williamson.
John mentioned that one of his goals was to build
a database of 1 million subscribers. I thought
he was CRAZY.
Now, after being in business since 1996, I find
that my database is approaching 1 million
subscribers. This is across numerous niches, and
some of the list probably need cleaning.
I have opt-in forms on practically every website
that I own, and offer “bribes.” This has worked
well.
I also have participated in maybe 30 free list
building giveaway. The latest one that I’m in
will help support heart operations for poor kids
who would not otherwise get much needed surgery.
You can read about that effort here (and I
encourage you to sign up as a contributor):

Not all of my list have the same level of
responsiveness, but it IS neat to have such a large
database.
I sub-list, separating my subscribers based upon
numerous criteria, and spread across numerous accounts.
My biggest problem is now that I have to keep
increasing the capacity of some accounts. Here’s a
warning I got when I logged into one account earlier
today
Nice problem to have right?
