Using President Bill Clinton’s Marketing Secret

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton once remarked that, “In order
to win The White House, people have to be able to envision you as
The President.”
He intuitively understood something that ALL marketers need to
understand, and it doesn’t matter what you are selling. That is
that people have to be able to see themselves experiencing and
enjoying the results of using your product.
In the case of someone running for president, the people have to
be able to see themselves prospering, and feeling safe and happy
with that person as president.
In the case of your online products, people have to be able to
see themselves enjoying and benefiting from using your products.
Jay Abraham called the technique of having your customer seeing
themselves using your product “future pacing.”
I actually use this VERY effectively in my copywriting, and have
for many years. As an example, I sell a soul food (or southern)
cookbook. On my webpage I FOCUS my readers to what it will feel
like when they cook the foods in my cookbook and share them with
family and friends.
- Their kids will come home from school, and as they enter the
house and smell the home-cooked dishes, they’ll never want
fast-food again.
- Their kids will actually sneak back down to the kitchen in the
middle of the night, and even fight over the leftovers.
- Their co-workers will try to sneak home extra serving from
office covered-dish parties.
- Their in-laws will ask them to fix a favorite dish so often
that they’ll become known as the family member with the best
deep-fried turkey recipe.
- They’ll be able to share with their kids a part of their
heritage as they prepare (and also enjoy) foods that they had as
children and thought they’d never taste again.
This is actually a very simple copywriting technique. You just
ask your prospect to “imagine what life would be like when…”
Another personal example, is that I sell a teleseminar/">course on setting up
lucrative joint ventures. To do that, I merely get my prospects
to “see” how much easier making sales will be when they have an
ARMY of hundreds of enthusiastic affiliates all eagerly selling
THEIR products.
I get them to fast-forward to that day after a big product launch
when they log-in to check stats and they’ve made $50,000 in
sales, and then they repeat this day-after-day for several weeks.
Then I get them to see that when they master the joint venture
orchestrating techniques I’ll share with them, and do just a few
more “stealth tactics” that I teach, that they can actually have
many top marketers begging for the opportunity to promote their
products.
Former President Clinton, like all good marketers, knew how to
sell by having the prospect see the results in advance. If a
prospect can see themselves happy with a purchase decision, then
it becomes a non-decision!
Go back and examine your web copy, your emails, and your
autoresponder messages. Do they SHOW the prospects what life will
be like after they get your product?
If not, that’s the glaring problem that you need to fix, and you
need to fix it immediately. Until your customers can actually
smile as they envision using your product, your sales will suffer.
This is an incredibly easy fix. You just imagine what life will
“feel” like to a customer using and benefiting from your product.
Then you simply describe it to them.
